...and I took a walk through the mountains, (2021)
...and I took a walk through the mountains, (2021) is a series of virtual photographs taken during a walk through a Unity 3D environment.
Inspired by free-roaming video games, I created a mountainous forest terrain that features ancient Greek ruins. I scripted an in-game camera that allows the player to switch between orthographic and perspective, increase and decrease orthographic size/FOV, and to take screenshots that save to the project folder. From there, I edited the images in Photoshop and Lightroom, giving the images the same treatment that I would for photographs that were taken in real life. My goal for the project was to challenge notions about photographing virtual environments and our expectations when it comes to experiencing virtual environments.
The final products of this project is the collection of photographs and a triptych installation of prints in SAIC's Undergraduate Exhibition.
